Cosmetics in Canada - statistics & facts
The global beauty and personal care market recorded increasing growth in the last few years, and forecasts show that revenues will keep on rising. This applies to the Canadian beauty and personal care market as well, which is expected to grow from about 8.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2024 to nearly 9.6 billion U.S. dollars by 2029, with personal care, skincare, and cosmetics being its most profitable segments.
As of June 2024, there were more than 2,500 cosmetics, beauty supplies and perfume stores in the country.
Despite being a smaller market compared to world leaders like the United States or China, the Canadian beauty market has recorded stable revenues in the last years and shows promising forecasts.
Leading cosmetics segments
Among the cosmetic products sold in Canada, the revenue of eye cosmetic products was one of the highest in the period from 2019 to 2024. In 2024, it amounted to roughly 450 million U.S. dollars, closely followed by the revenue generated in the facial cosmetic products segment. According to a survey conducted in 2024, approximately 60 percent of Canadians said that they select body care and cosmetic products based on quality. During the same survey, around 78 percent of respondents stated that the body care and cosmetic products they use most regularly were personal hygiene products. These were followed by oral care and skin care products.
