Previously known as Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc., and often referred to as simply "Ulta", the company has been offering both high-end and low-end cosmetic and personal care products since 1990. As of 2024, Ulta Beauty boasted more than 1,440 stores across the United States, a much higher figure compared to just ten years before. Moreover, Ulta's expansion is not expected to stop anytime soon: the company has, in fact, recently acquired British beauty retailer Space NK.

Between 2011 and 2023, the Ulta Beauty’s net sales mostly experienced steady growth, reaching a peak in 2024, with over 11 billion dollars, while net income went from 172.5 million to 1.2 billion U.S. dollars. In the first quarter of 2025, Ulta's net sales demonstrated further growth compared to the previous year, with an increase of around 4.5 percent. Thanks to its positive financial results, the company also appeared in a ranking of the leading 100 retailers in the United States.E-commerce and online presence
As of 2023, Ulta Beauty was also one of the leading beauty e-commerce in the United States, with online net sales amounting to about 2.1 billion U.S. dollars. Ulta Beauty’s online presence is indeed very strong, and in March 2024, ulta.com registered over 30 million monthly visits in the United States, making it the leading beauty retailer website in the country. Furthermore, in 2025, Ulta Beauty also gained second place as Gen Z’s favorite destination for in-store shopping, followed by Bath & Body Works.As the beauty industry keeps on growing, physical and online beauty retailers like Ulta Beauty can be expected to also continue thriving and to remain among the most visited shopping destinations by consumers.
