Slaughter and meat processing were the most profitable segments in the German nutrition industry in 2022, generating around 50 billion euros in revenue. Other leading areas included milk processing, as well as production of baked goods and pasta products. The nutrition market is a dynamic and varied one, though facing the same challenges as many other consumer-oriented sectors today: production and delivery difficulties, staff shortages for various reasons (whether in retail or production), agricultural issues, and changing consumer preferences regarding food.
