American corporation the Altria Group, Inc. is one of the largest producers and marketers of tobacco and tobacco-related products worldwide. Formerly known as Philip Morris Companies, Inc., the group changed its name in 2003. This rebranding was done in a bid to emphasize its diversified business portfolio and, perhaps, also distance itself from the tobacco business and the negative topics associated with it. Since 2008, Philip Morris International (PMI) has been operating as a separate company from Altria and is now a major competitor to the group.
