In 2019, the French spent more than 100 billion euros shopping on the internet. Online payment solutions have seen a surge in demand and usage, especially because of increasing online orders due to the 2020 coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in France. One major success factor influencing the expansion of online payments is the security of transactions. Considering the value of domestic fraud on remote payments in the service sector directed at individuals and businesses amounted to almost 39 million euros in 2018, a great deal of trust is also put into banks, as most online purchases (80.1 percent) are paid for with bank cards.
