There were 14.79 million families with one child under 18 years living in the household in the United States in 2015, in comparison to 46.74 million families with no children. Recently reported figures compared the weekly grocery expenditure in U.S. households with or without children. The findings showed that households with children had higher grocery spending per week than households without kids. Besides higher grocery expenditure, food supply in many American households with children is also affected by economic conditions. A recent poll found that many U.S. families struggle when it comes to food security. Even though a major part of U.S. households with kids under 18 years old indicated to be food secure in 2015, some 16.6 percent said that they are food insecure.
