Fruit is a widely consumed food that is considered healthy and required for a balanced diet. The most produced varieties of fruit worldwide are bananas and watermelons. The greatest annual fruit harvest in the world occurs in Asia. In 2023, more than 89 million metric tons of citrus fruits were produced in Asia, compared to some 46 million tons produced in the Americas. China alone produced almost 270 million metric tons of fresh fruit in 2023.
