Inditex and the fashion industry in Spain - statistics & facts
Spanish fashion is more than colorful flamenco dresses and bullfighters’ trajes de luces. And although some of this colorfulness can be found in the Barcelona-based brand Desigual, Spain is better known for high street chains like Zara and MANGO, luxury brands like Loewe and Balenciaga, and its footwear sector, with brands like Panama Jack and Pikolinos. Still, one company takes the lead in Spain’s fashion industry - Industria de Diseño Textil, commonly known as Inditex.
However, with over 26 billion euros in revenue worldwide, Zara was by far the leading Inditex brand in 2023. In Spain alone, the Inditex flagship brand, Zara España S.A., recorded a sales value of over 2.7 billion euros in 2023.
Inditex has played a pivotal role in the Spanish fashion market through its brands Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull&Bear and more. Thanks to the diverse range of styles and accessibility to shoppers each Inditex brand provides, the retailer solidifies its leader status in the Spanish fashion industry.

The fashion industry in Spain inevitably goes hand in hand with one of its main players in the sector, the Inditex Group. Since its creation in the sixties, Inditex has gradually grown to become globally present. The Spanish multinational clothing company registered a net income of almost 1.3 billion euros in the fourth quarter of 2023 alone. While Inditex operates on a global scale, the majority of its stores are located in Europe. Inditex: main competitors in Spanish market
Some of Inditex’s main competitors in the Spanish market include the country’s own MANGO and El Corte Inglés, as well as Swedish brand H&M, the Belgian C&A, and Irish Primark.
